It's hard for some people to believe the incredible opulence and lavish sights of Las Vegas. The hotels and casinos here are among the most elaborate and expansive anywhere in the world. From the Bellagio to Mandalay Bay to the MGM Grand and beyond, visitors to Las Vegas have a huge array of choices to keep them busy and entertained.
Las Vegas is famous, of course, for its casinos and there is certainly no shortage of them. "The Strip", as it is known, is the premier area of casinos and gambling that features incredible neon signs that literally light up the night. Each casino strives to entice you into their facility and then keep you there as long as possible with gaming, food, drink, and entertainment.
Among the most extravagant hotel and resort complexes in Las Vegas are the Bellagio and Mandalay Bay. The Bellagio is home to a spectacular fountain out front, with intricately choreographed displays that are set to music. Venture inside and you will find a stunning lobby area, gorgeous botanical gardens, Mediterranean-inspired courtyards and swimming pools, and the kind of luxury accommodations you will remember forever.
The Mandalay Bay is another luxurious hotel and resort complex that will astound you throughout. The grounds are nothing short of beautiful, with manicured gardens and walkways that will delight you day or night. Inside is a spectacular lobby area, several of the finest restaurants in the city, and of course, expansive and glittering casino areas. There is even an indoor aquarium facility known as Shark Reef, where visitors can stroll through a translucent tunnel surrounded by sharks, fish, turtles, and many other recognizable ocean species.
You can't go to Las Vegas without seeing one of its extravagant shows. These range from the famous Cirque de Soleil to performances by famous singers, magicians, and entertainers. It is a good idea to check out the show schedule well in advance of your visit and buy your tickets right away. Many of the most popular shows sell out regularly, so buying in advance is critical if you want to assure your seat.
As difficult as it might be to imagine, there is more to Las Vegas than just casinos, gambling, and entertainment. There are many outdoor activities to enjoy as well, such as golf, tennis, swimming, and the like. If you find yourself needing a break from the glitz consider a visit to Red Rock Canyon just on the western outskirts of the city. There you will find some of the best rock climbing opportunities in the U.S., but if you're not into scaling the rocks then you can have plenty of fun exploring the trails and natural sights in the park. There is a special driving route laid out in the park that allows you to tour the beautiful landscapes, park and enjoy special vistas, and generally enjoy the rugged splendour of the park.
The primary airport in Las Vegas is McCarran International Airport, served by a number of major international air carriers. For most holiday travellers coming from Europe, getting to Las Vegas generally requires flying into one of the larger cities on the east coast and then taking a connecting flight to Las Vegas. Once you arrive at the airport, arranging transportation into the city is a snap. Most of the major hotel and resort properties offer shuttle services as well as hotel check-in and luggage transfers right there at the airport. There are plenty of rental cars available, as well as other shuttle services and an excellent taxi system to get you where you need to go.
